Découverte Vineyard 2015 Pinot Noir

Découverte Vineyard 2014 Pinot Noir

Vintages: 2015  2014

This Pinot Noir features fruit from our second estate, Découverte Vineyard. The grapes are handpicked in the heart of the rolling landscape of the Dundee Hills wine region and defined by the red-fruit character and freshness typical of their volcanic Jory soils. At The Winery, the grapes are hand-sorted, and fermentation and maceration takes place in small lots, to retain the natural, original character of the site and vintage.

Vintage Notes

The 2015 growing season began early, and, with a solid spring and summer, the Pinot Noir grapes reached optimal ripeness with good concentration. The vintage marks the year we retrained our organically farmed vines to further extract the complexity of the soil. Overall, 2015 was wonderful, creating wines with balance and harmony on the nose and palate.

Tasting Notes

A brilliant and nice ruby-red color. The nose is delicate, floral, and fruity, with tart red fruit, wild flowers, and noble wood. The wine is fine, subtle in the mouth. The tension is balanced by a delicate tannic structure, and the palate is full of fruits—raspberry, strawberry, blackberry—and spices, including pepper and clove. Minerality dominates a long and elegant finale.

Vintage Notes

2014 was the warmest vintage ever recorded in the Willamette Valley. With an early season, a warm spring, and a dry and hot summer, all of the growing conditions of a great vintage were met. Long and even, it allowed the grapes to fully mature and developed added structure, while remaining fresh and light.

Tasting Notes

A brilliant cherry color. A lot of red fruits and delicate spices, with hints of rose and noble woods. The palate is elegant—well-balanced between subtle flavors and fine tannins. The finish is long and delicate, with focused minerality.
